(A) RECEPTION APPARATUS FOR RADIO-TELEPHONY OR RADIO-TELEGRAPHY
This apparatus is used for the reception of signals (representing speech messages or still pictures) by means of electro-magnetic waves which are transmitted through the ether without any line connection.
This group includes inter alia :
(1) Fixed reception apparatus (including those used mainly in large installations) and special devices such as secrecy devices (e.g. spectrum inverters); certain receivers termed " diversity receivers " employ multiple receiver technique to overcome fading.
(2) Radio-telephony receivers for motor vehicles ships aircraft trains etc.
(3) Portable receivers usually battery operated.
(4) Receivers for radio-telegraphic staff location systems.
(5) Radio receivers for simultaneous interpretation at multilingual conferences.
(6) Special receivers for distress signals from ships aircraft etc.
(7) Telemetric signal receivers.
(8) " Facsimile " radio-telegraphic apparatus for receiving on sensitised paper copies of documents newspapers plans messages etc. The radio apparatus of the group may include certain parts which are identical to those normally used in line telegraphy or line telephony. If presented separately these parts are classified in heading 85.17.
(B) RECEPTION APPARATUS FOR RADIO-BROADCASTING
The sound radio-broadcasting apparatus falling in this heading must be for the reception of signals by means of electro-magnetic waves transmitted through the ether without any line connection.
This group includes :
(1) Domestic radio receivers of all kinds (table models consoles receivers for mounting in furniture walls etc. portable models receivers whether or not combined in the same housing with sound recording or reproducing apparatus or a clock).
(2) Car radio receivers.
(3) Separately presented reception apparatus for incorporation in relay apparatus of heading 85.25.
(4) Pocket-size radio cassette-players (see Subheading Note 1 to this Chapter).
PARTS
Subject to the general provisions regarding the classification of parts (see the General Explanatory Note to Section XVI) parts of the apparatus of this heading are classified in heading 85.29.
** *
The heading excludes inter alia :
(a)Transmitter-receivers of heading 85.25.
(b)Special purpose vehicles permanently equipped with radio receivers or other apparatus of this heading (generally heading 87.05).
(c)Radio receivers which form a single unit with analogue or digital telemetering instruments or apparatus or which together with the latter constitute a functional unit within the meaning of Note 3 to CHAPTER90
